One of my favorite things to do is to draft mythic stories about the places that I love to roam in. Here is an Irish Giant’s story that is set in the Cavan Burren where one of the walks is called The Giant’s Leap. I have adapted this story to invite the experience that I call Companioning Your Greatness. I write stories with one intention. This is to invite you to awaken the heart and discover the full potential seeded within you.

This story is suitable for children but really addressed to adults who are invited to take a giant leap and awaken the sleeping beauty within that they are created to express in a unique way within this dimeninsion of time and space. So I hope you enjoy this Irish giant story and allow it to awaken the giant within you and that you might take wing and learn to fly.

One late spring morning, a group of schoolchildren from the prestigious Academy of Enchantment set out on an excursion. They came in their enchanted bus called The Whispering Wanderer and parked close to the entrance near the old picnic table which is by a single green hut.

On this picnic table is a secret invisible banquet that only those with eyes that can see beyond the ordinary can see. This invisible banquet is given by the one called Feast on Your Life. He lives in the green hut which was a portal into the Nowhere that is Everywhere. This is the banquet from the magical treasure of Erin called The Cauldron of Plenty.

The school children from the Academy of Enchantment walk a little distance up the hill until they reached the line of haunted trees that lead into the forest where for many the way is lost.

They come with their teacher Miss Barbara who is from a family of Magical Smiths who teaches them mystic riddles and how to read the secret language of trees. Miss Barbara, warns them to stick to the main path and to heed the signs that lined the way. One sign reads “The Old Path.” Another sign reads “The Normal Way.

“Remember,” Miss Barbara said, “the old path is not for the faint-hearted. There are tales of those who wander there and never return.”

Despite her warning, a boy named Fion Skyheart, whose name means “one who goes soring” and who had eyes the color of the open sky and a heart that yearned for adventure, led his friends down the forbidden path. The air grows cooler, and the whispers of the forest seemed to sing of olden times and forgotten deeds of hero’s past.

Soon, they arrived at a clearing dominated by a massive stone. Legends called it the Giant’s Sleep. A weathered inscription at its base reads, “Danger – Do not pat the stone.”

“Come on,” Foin Skyheart urged the others, his voice tinged with mischief. “What’s the harm in a little pat?”

Before anyone of the other children from the Academy of Enchantment could protest, Fion Skyheart placed his hand on the stone’s surface. A tremor ran through the ground, and the stone groaned and shifted. The children stepped back, eyes wide with fear and wonder, as the stone transformed into a colossal figure. Towering above them was Stonemarch the Awakener, the ancient giant of the Heartlands of Erin his eyes like burning coals and his voice a rumble of distant thunder.

“Who dares disturb my slumber?” Stonemarch the Awakener bellowed.

The children quaked in terror, but Fion Skyheart stepped forward, his heart pounding. “It was I, Fion Skyheart. I meant no harm, great giant.”

Stonemarch the Awakener gaze fixed on the boy, and a slow, ponderous smile spread across his face. “Skyheart, the brave. You have woken me, and now you must face the challenge. Follow me to the Giant’s Leap.”

With a single, tremendous stride, Stonemarch led them through the forest, to the edge of a cliff that overlooked the vast, sprawling landscape below. The cliff was known as the Giant’s Leap, a place of legend where few dared to venture and those that do often do not return.

Stonemarch turned to Fion Skyheart. “Leap, young one, or I shall push you. Only those with the heart of a lion and the soul of a dreamer can make the leap.”

Fion Skyheart trembled, staring into the abyss. But deep within, a voice echoed—a voice that spoke the words of the master of The Academy of Enchantment Elysande (Ely Sand De) Moonshadow:

You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with infinite potential. You have wings. Use them and fly.

Taking a deep breath, Fion Skyheart stepped off the edge. For a moment, he plummeted, his heart in his throat. He fell and he fell and the falling never seemed to edn. But then, miraculously, he felt a strange lightness. Wings, ethereal and shimmering, sprouted from his back, catching the wind and lifting him up.

He soared above the Heartlands, the world a tapestry of greens and blues below him. The thrill of flight filled him with indescribable joy and freedom. As he glided, he realized that the leap was not about bravery or defiance, but about trusting in the unseen potential within.

Returning to the cliff, he landed gracefully beside Stonemarch the Awakener, who watched him with a knowing smile. “You see, young Skyheart, you have always had wings. You simply needed to believe in them.”

Fion Skyheart nodded, his skyheart swelling with newfound wisdom. He had learned that true courage comes from within, and that sometimes, the greatest leaps of faith reveal the wings we never knew we had.

The Awakening from Sleep Begins

Stonemarch the Awakener returned to his slumber, and the children made their way back to the academy, on their magic bus. Their minds buzzing with the day’s adventures. They had ventured off the path, patted a forbidden stone, and awakened an ancient giant, but most importantly, Fion Skyheart had discovered the power of believing in his own potential.

From that day on, whenever faced with a challenge, Fion Skyheart would remember the Giant’s Leap and the lesson he had learned: that within each of us lies the ability to soar, if only we dare to take the leap and trust that you are born with goodness and trust. That you are born with potential. You are born with wings. With this KNOWING Fion Skyheart might well live happily ever after.

This is the nature of fairytales. They are not just stories for children. They are metaphors for aspects of the human condition where you as the hero or heroine are asked to take on the full adventure of living you one wild and precious life and the trials that go along with this journey within time and space.

Irish Giants Story – Awakening Your True Potential
