Learning to Treasure the REAL You

Day 04

Power of Attention?

5 Minute Invitation – Read

10 Minute Invitation – Read and Listen

15 Minutes or More – Read, Listen and Reflect

Welcome to Being Beautiful – Day 04.  An invitation in learning how to treasure the REAL you.

If The Power of Intention is the direction the attention is the searchlight that illuminates that direction.

The reality of many people’s lives is that they live lives distracted by distraction.

Consciously focus your attention of being centred in the breath rather than the voice in you heal.

The focus of attention is awareness watching awareness.

This is awareness of thoughts, emotions and sensations.

This is a practice called silent witnessing.

This is awareness beyond judgement, labelling, analysing and concepts.

Attention is focused on allowing the energy that arises by way of thought, emotion and sensation to flow.

You rest in the stream of open natural awareness.

Instead of judging, labeling, manipulating, controlling you surrender to life’s flow.

You look without looking. You act without acting. You and the experience are One.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

By Portia Nelson

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
but, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.

Warm Love by Van Morrison

Look at the ivy on the cold clinging wall
Look at the flowers and the green grass so tall
It’s not a matter of when push comes to shove
It’s just an hour on the wings of a dove

I dig it when you’re fancy dressed up in lace
I dig it when you have a smile on your face
This inspiration’s got to be on the flow
This invitation’s got to see it and know

It’s just warm love
It’s just warm love
And it’s everpresent everywhere
And it’s everpresent everywhere
That warm love

To the country I’m going
Lay and laugh in the sun
You can bring, bring your guitar along
We’ll sing some songs, we’ll have some fun

The sky is crying and it’s time to go home
And we shall hurry to the car from the foam
Sit by the fire and dry out our wet clothes
It’s raining outside from the skies up above

Inside it’s warm love
Inside it’s warm love
And it’s everpresent everywhere
And it’s everpresent everywhere
Warm love
Warm love

By Van Morrison – Hard Nose the Highway 1983

Today’s Quotation

All of these – thoughts, emotions and physical sensations – were wonderful opportunities to bear witness and return my attention to my breath. I realized how little control I had over the wanderings and musings of my own mind. Starting again and again it was like watching ping pong as my mind bounced between thought, breath, thought, emotion, breath
